Lin Johnson can help you. Email her with details (type of manuscript, genre, audience, length) about your manuscript and type of editing you want.

Copyediting

Copyediting is the fine-tuning before your manuscript is typeset.

  • Optional: Put your Microsoft Word document in the proper format for the typesetter.
  • Correct errors in spelling, punctuation, grammar, subject-verb agreement, etc.
  • Restructure sentences if needed.
  • Check for consistent formatting, e.g., subheads.
  • Check all Scripture quotes and references for accuracy. (Be sure to identify what translation(s) you use.)
  • Check all quotes from other sources for accuracy. (You provide copies of the original quotes.)
  • Format footnotes or endnotes according to The Chicago Manual of Style if needed.
  • Look for any copyright issues (proper citations, quotes that need permission).
  • Create a copyright page if not included.

Proofreading

Proofreading is the final check before and/or after your manuscript is typeset.

  • Check for spelling and punctuation errors.
  • Check for typos.
  • Check for missing words and inserted words that don’t belong.
  • Check for space errors.
